This S&T Observation research note examines the mean age of students at enrolment in graduate studies between 1999 and 2008. Overall, the average age at enrolment is decreasing at both master’s and doctorate level and on average, students enrolling in graduate studies in professional fields are significantly older than those entering in fundamental disciplinary fields.
